We travel 150kms west to Mooi River, a spectacular region nestled in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, known predominantly for agriculture and dairy farming. We arrive at Hartford House, an old homestead steeped in history, where legend has it, the owner witnessed, from his front porch, one of the bloody battles being fought in the valley, between the British and the Zulus! Our walking tour starts in the beautiful gardens of the homestead and continues across to Summerhill, which is South Africa’s most renowned Racehorse Stud. It is so well respected world wide in fact, that it is home to many famous Arab Sheik’s Race Horses! Depending on the time of year you may have an opportunity to meet the foals as well as the many blood stock mares, stallions and famous racehorses that call Summerhill Home. We end off this spectacular day with a sumptuous lunch at Hartford House. (L)
