DAY 1: TUNIS
Arrive Tunis, transfer to hotel in Hammamet.
Overnight: Hammamet (D)
DAY 2: HAMMAMET - EL JEM - GABES - MATMATA
Depart for El Jem and see the Amphitheatre, the most imposing of Roman monuments in Africa. Continue to Sfax and visit the Medina. Travel to Gabes and visit Gabes Market (Jara). Proceed to Matmata, where craters dug into the ground provided another type of shelter from invaders. See the amazing underground troglodyte village, used as the setting in the original “Star Wars” movie and inhabited until the 1960s.

DAY 3: MATMATA - MEDENINE - CHENINI - TATAOUINE
Depart for Medenine and visit the Ghorfas (ancient Berber granaries). Travel via Tatouine to Chenini and visit the Berber village situated on a hill, famous for its ancient cave dwellings. Continue to the Berber village of Ksar Haddada with its architectural style inspired by the Ghorfas.

DAY 4: TATAOUINE - DOUZ - NOUAIL - SABRIA - ZAAFRANE - DOUZ
Depart for Douz, “the gateway of the Sahara”. Douz marks the beginning of the Grand Erg Oriental (Great Eastern Sand Sea) and its ochre sand dunes. After lunch, visit the villages of Nouail, Sabria and the ghostly ruins of Zaafrane, swallowed up by desert sand. Return to Douz. Optional camel ride on the dunes of the Sahara available.

DAY 5: DOUZ - CHOTT EL JERID - NEFTA - TOZEUR
Cross Chott el-Jerid, this vast seasonal salt-water lake is dry for much of the year and has salt piles that glitter with a multitude of colours. Arrive at Tozeur and visit the old town. After lunch, depart for Nefta and its famous palm groves. Evening visit of the Dar Cherait Museum in Tozeur, devoted to southern Tunisia’s history and everyday life.

DAY 6: TOZEUR - CHEBIKA - TAMERZA - MIDES - TOZEUR
Depart to the Mountain Oasis of Chebika, Tamerza and Mides. Chebika, a small village with its palm trees and mini waterfalls lying at the foot and slopes of the Djebel el Negueb, was once a Roman outpost and one of the
mountain refuges of the Berber peoples. Tamerza offers a breathtaking view of the region with its salt lakes and river gorges. Tamerza is the site of the Festival gathering of inhabitants of the mountain oases, where Berber arts,
traditions, folklore and music can be enjoyed. A few kilometers away is Mides, a small and “undiscovered” village that overlooks a sea of green palm and orange groves. The gorges have been sculpted by the river torrents and vast monuments carved in a myriad of shapes. Afternoon at leisure.

DAY 7: TOZEUR - GAFSA - KAIROUAN - HAMMAMET
Travel via Gafsa to Kairouan; visit the Arabic and Islamic monuments in the holiest town in North Africa. See the Great Mosque built in 670AD by Sidi Okba and the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi. See the Aghlabid Basin. Stop at a
carpet shop and see the typical craftwork of the region. Afternoon departure for Hammamet.

DAY 8: HAMMAMET - TUNIS
