DAY 1: KIRKENES
Arrive Kirkenes, shuttle bus transfer to hotel. Kirkenes is the most remote outpost in mainland Norway, about 400km north of the Arctic Circle. Evening guided dog-sledge tour through Pasvikdalen valley. Help prepare the dog sledges before setting out into the “polar night”. In good weather conditions, see the Northern Lights dance across the skies as you travel along the border between Norway and Russia – an exotic adventure in an Arctic climate. End the trip with a delicious meal served in a Sami lavvu.
Overnight: Kirkenes Arctic Hotel or similar (D)
DAY 2: KIRKENES - SNOW HOTEL
Morning guided snowmobile safari; the track crosses a beautiful and wild mountain area to Grense Jakobselv and follows the Russian Norwegian borderline all the way to the Barents Sea. In Grense Jakobselv, visit the King Oscar Chapel and see the Russian and Norwegian border observation towers and stations. A light meal is served during the trip. Evening transfer by kick-sledge to the Snow Hotel situated in the Gabba Reindeer Park. *Each December the hotel is constructed entirely out of snow and ice. Each snow suite is individually decorated with furniture, sculptures and wall paintings made out of ice carvings. Beds are topped with reindeer pelts to keep guest cosy and warm. We suggest you visit the snow bar for an “iced” drink. Dinner is served in the restaurant situated in a traditional Sami lavvu.
Overnight: Snow Hotel, Kirkenes (BD)
DAY 3: SNOW HOTEL - KIRKENES
Transfer by kick-sledge from the Snow Hotel to Kirkenes Hotel. Balance of day at leisure, we suggest you try ice fishing for King-crab or snow-shoeing.
Overnight: Kirkenes Arctic Hotel or similar (B)
DAY 4: KIRKENES
Shuttle bus transfer to Kirkenes Airport. (B)
*Depending on weather and snow conditions.
