DAY 1: OSLO – BODØ – HURTIGRUTEN
Flight Oslo to Bodø. Make your way to the quay, afternoon embarkation on your Hurtigruten vessel. Gliding through the archipelago, cross the Vestfjord and see the 100km long Lofoten mountain range rising from the sea. This jagged mountain range shelters many fishing stations, including Svolvær. A one-hour stop in Svolvær at night and we recommend you walk along the quays and see the distinctive, sheer rock formation of the “Svolvær Goat”.
Overnight: Hurtigruten (D)
DAY 2: TROMSØ
Early morning arrival in the beautiful town of Harstad. Continue north to the capital of Northern Norway, Tromsø, which occupies a unique position between the sea and imposing mountains. The city is often referred to as the gateway to the Arctic, not least due to its historic links to polar research and expeditions which has set out from Tromsø. Visit the Polar Centre and learn about arctic nature, flora and fauna, ice, seals and the Northern Lights. See the Arctic Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece inspired by the Arctic sea. Experience the never ending bright nights and the Midnight Sun in summer and the spectacular Northern Lights in winter (weather permitting). In the evening, cruise towards the North Cape.
Overnight: Hurtigruten (BD)
DAY 3: NORTH CAPE – HONNINGSVÅG
Early morning departure from Hammerfest, the world’s northernmost town. Continue east to Honningsvåg, disembark and join an excursion to the North Cape. Enjoy the magnificent sub-Arctic landscape as you cross the 71st parallel. The North Cape itself rises 307m out of the icy ocean and is the northern-most point of the European continent. Visit the North Cape Hall and enjoy wide-screen films about North Cape and the county of Finnmark. Return to Honningsvåg, balance of day at leisure.
Overnight: Honningsvåg (B)
DAY 4: HONNINGSVÅG – ALTA - OSLO
Travel by bus along the Porsangerfjord and over Sennalandet Mountain Plateau to Alta. This is the commercial centre of the Norwegian Sami people. Flight Alta to Oslo. (B)
