Victoria Falls, known locally as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ (Smoke that Thunders), on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, is where the mighty Zambezi River takes a breathtakingly spectacular and noisy plunge down a deep, wide gorge. The famous words of Dr. Livingstone described the sight as “Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”, immortalising the place for all visitors to come. Mist from the waterfalls can be seen over 20 kilometres away and the thundering roar can be heard long before the falls are visible.
A World Heritage Site, the falls and the gorge below provide far more to do than just sightsee, for some of the most exciting and varied action activities in Africa occur here, from amazing white water rafting to breathtaking bungi jump, helicopter flip over the falls and canoe safaris amidst groups of hippo and elephant. Sundowner cruises, elephant-back safaris and open vehicle game drives provide more relaxed but equally thrilling experiences.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
Zimbabwe’s weather is most comfortable right after the rainy season in May and June. The grass is highest then, making game viewing difficult and Victoria Falls is shrouded in mist. October is very hot and the Falls tend to be their least striking, although game viewing is best. July through September splits the difference nicely. March though May is also an option, although rain is common in the morning and at night
