Egyptian Museum

The largest depository of Egyptian Antiquities anywhere, the museum is a perfect way to inform oneself about the Pharaonic and Greco-Roman Periods.  Among its treasures is the funerary collection of Tut-Ankh-Amun, and the “Mummies Room” (Mummies Room entrance fee not included).   

Citadel & Bazaar
(Half-day – departs daily – min. 2 pax)

Begun by Saladin, the Citadel was the nerve centre of Cairo during 700 years of Islamic and Ottoman rule.  The Mosque of Mohammed Ali (also called the Alabaster Mosque), is built atop the Citadel, and well worth a visit.  Nearby, the Khan el Khalili bazaar dates to the late 14th century, and is a must for both shoppers and non-shoppers.

Pyramids & Sphinx

See the most famous pyramids at Giza during this excursion, each built from more than 2 million 2.5-ton blocks. Nearby, the mystical Sphinx surveys the plains of Giza, a must for all visitors to Egypt.  A visit to Chephren’s Valley Temple is also included.

Coptic Cairo
(Half-day – departs daily – min. 2 pax)

Visit the Coptic Church where the Holy Family is said to have rested. Nearby the Hanging Church should also be seen, as it is suspended over the ruins of the two Roman fort towers.  The Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of the oldest in the world, is famous for the ancient library which was found during excavations, and is also the legendary site where Moses was found by the Pharaoh’s daughter.

Islamic Cairo
(Half-day – departs daily – min. 2 pax)

Today you will becollected from your hotel for a morning tour to the Islamic Museum which is the repository of masterpieces representing the artistic Muslim era.  Continue to the Mosque of Ibn Touloun named after the founder of the Toulounid state and which was built in 878 A.D. It has a unique feature of a spiral staircase winding up a minaret.  Your next stop is at the Mosque of Sultan Hassan which was built in 1385 A.D. and is generally regarded by art historians as being among the supreme achievements of Islamic architecture.  Return to your hotel for the balance of your day at leisure.

Sakkara & Memphis
(Half-day – departs daily – min. 2 pax)

Five thousand years ago, Memphis was capital of Upper and Lower Egypt. It is the site of the enormous statue of Ramses II and the Alabaster Sphinx. Sakkara is an exciting archaeological area, it is dominated by the oldest of the pyramids, the Step Pyramid of King Zoser.  Sakkara was also an ancient Necropolis (burial ground), and a visit to one of the many excavated tombs is recommended.

Sound & Light Show Giza
(Evening – departs daily – min. 2 pax)

An unforgettable experience, this evening’s Sound and Light Show (approximately 1 hour) traces the history of the Pyramids and the Pharaohs who ordered their construction.

Dinner Nile Cruise
(Evening 2 hours – departs daily – min. 2 pax)

Board a floating restaurant on the Nile and cruise along the shores as the city’s lights come on for the evening. After a delicious dinner in the ship’s restaurant, enjoy a show of native music and dance.  (D)

Fayoum

Drive 110km to Fayoum, Egypt's largest oasis, overlooking Lake Qarun, which is a popular spot for hunting and fishing. Spend the morning among Egyptian antiquities and the serene orchards and gardens of the oasis. Fayoum is today a modern city, but you will still see the life-giving wonder of an Oasis.  (L)

Alexandria

Take the desert road to Alexandria, for a day among the Greco-Roman artefacts and structures and the exquisite beaches. Visit the Greco-Roman Museum, Pompey’s Pillarand the Catacombs. See the Montazah Gardens and Qait Bay Citadel before returning to Cairo.  (L)

El-Alamein tour Cairo

This historic World War II battlefield was the site of the clash between Rommel and Montgomery.  The British victory here provided the staging point for the Allied invasion of Italy.  You will also see the British, German or Italian cemeteries.  (L)
